👋 Who We Are

RetroVault was founded in 2018 by a small group of vintage technology enthusiasts who were frustrated by the lack of reliable, honest sources for authentic antique gadgets online. Too many listings we came across were vague about condition, vague about origin, or simply not what they claimed to be. We set out to build something different: a curated marketplace where collectors could buy with genuine confidence.

Today, RetroVault operates online at gadgetrare.shop and is headquartered in New York City, shipping authenticated vintage tech, cameras, appliances, and collectible sneakers to buyers across the United States and internationally.

We believe well-made things deserve a second life. Our mission is simple: rescue genuinely great vintage tech and design objects from attics, storage units, and estate sales, restore them where it makes sense, describe them with total honesty, and connect them with people who will actually use and appreciate them — not let them rot in a landfill or a drawer.

🔧 What We Do

We physically source, authenticate, and — where appropriate — restore antique and vintage tech items from across the globe. Every single item listed on our site has been examined in person by our specialist team before it goes on sale. We do not drop-ship, and we do not list items we have not personally verified.

• Sourcing — estate sales, retiring collectors, closed repair shops, and regional dealers across the US, Europe, and Asia.
• Authentication — every item is checked against known manufacturing details, serial numbers, and construction markers for its era.
• Restoration — where safe and appropriate, we recondition mechanical and electronic components using period-correct methods.
• Grading — each piece receives one of five condition grades, explained in full on our grading & build quality page.

We believe in radical transparency. Every listing includes an honest condition report — including any flaws, scratches, or missing components. We never airbrush reality to make a sale, and we would rather lose a sale than mislead a customer about what they are buying.

🧭 Why Items Are Still Available

We get asked this a lot: if these gadgets are so rare, how do we keep finding them? The honest answer is that vintage tech resurfaces constantly — through estate liquidations, retiring collectors downsizing, and family collections that finally get sorted after decades in storage. Many units we acquire arrive non-functional; our restoration process is what turns a "dead" find into something sellable again. Stock is genuinely limited on every individual piece — once a specific unit sells, it's gone — but our sourcing network means new (old) pieces keep surfacing every week.

👥 Our Team

Our team includes specialist authenticators with expertise in vintage computing, analogue photography, classic audio equipment, telecommunications hardware, and retro fashion. Combined, our team has over 60 years of hands-on experience in the collectibles space, and several of us started out as private collectors ourselves before turning it into a full-time trade.
